Origins of Ice Hockey
The first ice hockey was played by the Mikmaq First Nation. The MIkmaq First Nation is a native in Canada. The Mikmaq calls the hockey game as tooadikik. The Mikmaq also plays another game called wolchamaadijik that is very similar to hockey. The European who immigrated to Canada introduced a number of sports that resembles the hockey game. Some of the games that are introduced by the Europeans include hurling which are adapted to play on the ice. In Russia, there are a number of paintings that shows an early form of hockey called shinney.
In 1844, Thomas Chandler Haliburton wrote a book. In the book, it talks about the boys who used to play shinny on the ice. In the early days, shinny is used to refer to the hockey game. There are still some people that use shinney to describe the ice hockey. Ice hockey requires a lot of muscles. It is a tough game and can be quite stressful.
The people in England build the first artificial ice rink in 1876. When the ice rink was finished, the people called it Glaciarium. Nowadays, the Zamboni machine is used from time to time to keep the ice rink clean.
In 1960, Goalie Jaques Plante developed the goalie mask for the ice hockey players. The puck which is a rubber disk is also invented. The ice hockey rules which are used in today game were devised by J. G. A. Creighton. The first ice hockey contest that is based on J.G.A Creighton was held n Montreal in Canada.
Ever since the ice hockey was accepted into the Olympics, it had become the most famous team sport game. In ice hockey, there are two teams that compete with each other. The member in the ice hockey team wears the ice skates to move on the ice. To score a point, the team must push the puck into the net of the opposing team. The team that scores the most point will win the game.
